Absentee voting in the Illinois primary elections will begin this Thursday, December 24th.   The actual primary election here in Illinois will take place on February 2nd.  There are a variety of resources (especially online resources) that you can use to ensure that your vote is an informed one!

For example, the Illinois Family Institute has put together a Voter Guide for the Illinois primary election.  You may view that voter guide by clicking here>>>>>>.  If you don’t know the congressional district in which you reside, you can click HERE to find out your district number.

Also, the Chicago Tribune has set up (as a part of their ongoing campaign called “The State of Corruption”), and will continue to add to, an online ”Election Center.”  You may view the Chicago Tribune’s Election Center by clicking here>>>>>>.  The Chicago Tribune describes the purpose of this resource:

Between now and the Feb. 2 primary, we will conduct local and statewide polls on the issues and report on the candidates and their claims and plans while on the campaign trail. In January, we will add an online campaign finance tracker that will tell you who has contributed money to each candidate’s campaign. Separately and independently, our editorial board will outline a range of proposals for improving government and give you advice on which candidates offer the best ideas. All of this will be captured online at the Election Center. After the Nov. 2 general election, the Election Center will become a monitor on how the people you elected perform in office.

At eVoter.com, you can (according to their website) “generate a personalized Sample Ballot, view Candidate Profiles, make Contributions, view Organizational Endorsements, find Polling Places and more.”

And Project Vote Smart provides an online repository of candidate information, including biographical information, voting records, issue positions, campaign finances, etc.

If you have not yet registered to vote, you can find more information about how to do so here>>>>>.  And here’s the Illinois Voter Registration Application (just fill it out and mail it in).  The deadline to register to vote is January 5th.

Note: The Central Illinois 9/12 Project Group is a non-partisan organization and therefore seeks only to provide information to its members about those candidates who are running for office.  We do not endorse any particular candidate or political party.
