The World Affairs Council of Central Illinois (WACCI) will be hosting a Citizens Forum on Foreign Policy this Friday night, February 19, 2010, from 7-9PM.  This forum will be held at the Dove Center at St. John’s Hospital (at 6th and Mason Streets in Springfield).  Refreshments will be served and no RSVP is needed.  This event is free and open to the public.

The World Affairs Council of America, of which the WACCI is a chapter, is an organization that, according to its website,

… is an association of 90 independent organizations in 39 states and the District of Columbia that work to engage and educate Americans on international affairs and foreign policy. All member organizations are non-profit, non-partisan, and maintain an open membership policy….

There will be two speakers at this forum.  Roy Wehrle, Ph.D., is professor emeritus of economics at the University of Illinois Springfield, specializing in international economic, environmental and political areas with special interest in sustainable growth.  He is going to speak on this topic from the liberal perspective.  Sangamon County Board Chairman Andy VanMeter, who is both a local and an international businessman, will speak on this topic from a conservative perspective.  Mr. VanMeter is the president of Design Ideas, a company (based in Springfield which employs 100 people locally and 25 people overseas) for which he travels across the globe to market and manufacture home and decor products.

Dr. Roy Wehrle had an editorial published in today’s State Journal-Register regarding this event, which you can read <<<here>>>.
